We specialise in delivering deep brain stimulation to treat movement disorders including Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and dystonia.
The overall care of each patient is overseen by neurologist A/Prof Wesley Thevathasan. The surgical implantation of DBS devices is performed by neurosurgeon Mr Kristian Bulluss with intraoperative navigation performed by A/Prof Thevathasan. The assessment and follow up of patients is supported by neuropsychiatrist Prof Mark Walterfang, in addition to our nursing and physiotherapy team. We are world leaders in developing innovations to improve deep brain stimulation – and our patients benefit from our use of the most technologically advanced techniques and our embedded research program.
Our comprehensive focused ultrasound program has adopted a similar model as our DBS service. Focused ultrasound procedures are performed by neurosurgeon Kristian Bulluss and neurologist A/Prof Wesley Thevathasan in a state-of-the-art facility at the Florey Institute, in partnership with Austin Health.
